Girdles are made of material that is light and breathable, providing much the same protection for inline players as for hockey players.
Girdles have ventilation holes that make them cooler to wear than hockey pants. Many inline players will simply just wear hockey pants, however for better comfort, a girdle is recommended.
Girdles and inline pants are sized as per the waist size of the player.
Female players need to ensure their hips are fitted correctly, making certain all area are well protected.
The padding of the pants needs to cover the area between the underarms and hips, also known as the kidney area.
Padding on the backside of the pants should fit down far enough to adequately cover the bottom of the player’s tailbone.
The padding of the thighs and hips needs to fit snugly but not so tight as to inhibit the motion of the player.
Some pants will come with a belt, which needs to be snugly positioned just above the hipbone.
The pants should fit snugly yet still be comfortable.
One way to test for good mobility is to have the player squat down while wearing pants and shin pads. The player should be comfortable and at the same time all of the padding in the pants, as well as the shin pads, should remain in the correct positioning.
As with all hockey equipment, girdles and pants should be repaired or replaced immediately if they are damaged and torn. After every use, girdles and pants should be hung to dry.
