Equipment Sizing Guide > Hockey Pants
Hockey pants are designed to protect the area of the body from the midsection down to the top of the shin guards.
This includes protection for the lower back, tailbone, lower abdomen, hips, and upper legs.
When wearing properly fitted hockey pants, the top of the pants should sit just below the lower rib cage, which is protected by the shoulder pads.
The pants should just overlap with the top of the shin guards, ensuring protection when the player’s knee is bent.

Some things to keep in mind when buying hockey pants include

a) the waist size of the player

b) the age, height, and weight of the player

c) the level of play they are participating in.

Correctly determining the height of the player will help in ensuring the pants fit about 1 to 2 inches below the shin guard.

Many pants will come with built in pads for added protection.
Hockey pants should fit loose enough to allow the player freedom of motion during play but shouldn’t be so loose that they move around too much. When buying hockey pants, most will come with a garter belt, so they can be securely tightened at the waist and held in place during play.

Size can be determined by the waist size of the player.
When wearing pants, they go over top of the jock strap, fitting snugly just over the shin guard.
If hockey pants are purchased too small they may not over the player’s lower body adequately, leading to injury.
As with all other hockey equipment, it’s important to regularly inspect the pants for tears and rips. If damage occurs, the pants need to be immediately repaired or replaced.
