Undergarments are a necessity of hockey equipment. It’s the undergarments that a player wears that will add to comfort and ease of wear of other pieces of hockey equipment.
Undergarments prevent chaffing and irritation for the skin.
As well, undergarments will absorb much of the moisture from the skin when a player sweats.
There are several different fabric types for undergarments but perhaps the most common and comfortable is fabric that is a 50/50 blend of cotton and polyester. Cotton and polyester absorb moisture very well.
Socks: Socks should be worn inside of skates for three main reasons:
1) to provide comfort for the feet
2) to absorb moisture
3) to provide ventilation
At the beginning of every practice or game, players should change into a fresh and clean pair of socks. This is all part of good hygiene.
It’s important that feet within the skates remain as dry and ventilated as possible.
Before tightening the skates, players should pull up the socks to remove any wrinkles that may cause discomfort during play.
It’s a good habit for players to always carry a second set of undergarments and socks to change into after practices.
During games, players should carry a second and third set of undergarments and socks.
If they become wet and uncomfortable they have the option of making a quick change.
