Essential Hockey Equipment

Unfortunately, there is more hockey equipment that you'll need to buy than for nearly any other sport, but all serves its part. You can even take advantage of this and buy one large hockey kit filled with different kinds of equipment to get you moving in the right direction. Here's just a very basic guide to some of the types of hockey equipment that you need.


Ice Skates:
There's no better place to start than with ice skates. You need a solid pair here that protects the foot and ankle, fits well so you won't get injured and will be able to move quickly and precisely. Ice skates come in all varieties and with all sorts of features, these can potentially be very expensive, so choose wisely.


Hockey Sticks: Don't bother with other hockey equipment if you don't even have the right hockey stick. Hockey sticks have come a long way since the old days, they are now very lightweight and easy to work with. Find one with the right length, and also the right style so that you can control or shoot the puck in the way that you'd like.


Hockey Jerseys: Hockey jerseys and hockey shirts are of course very important too. This is what you'll be wearing around the rink to let everyone know who you are and what team you're on. But even when you practice you'll want to be wearing a hockey shirt, because they provide warmth while you're on the ice and also help to keep all of your pads secure and everything underneath wrapped up and out of the way.


Hockey Pads: Hockey equipment is also very heavy on the padding because of the need for protection. Besides a helmet you'll also need padded shorts, a chest and shoulder protector, elbow and knee pads and more. It certainly adds up and that's not even including the hockey equipment and gear that a goalie needs!


Hockey Gloves: In addition to all of the pads mentioned above, you'll need hockey gloves. These will keep your hands safe and sound from errant sticks and stick swipes, flying pucks and of course being smashed against the boards. Not to mention that your hands will need to stay warm when on the ice.
